Our Governors
Meet the Governors
The role of the Governing Body.
The School Governing body is responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Together with the head teacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management, they set the school’s aims and policies.
Governors have three main roles:
- To provide strategic direction for the school
- To act as a critical friend to the head teacher
- To ensure accountability
Governors also have some important duties which they perform in collaboration with the head teacher and the senior leadership team. These include:
- Determining how the budget is spent,
The appointment of staff,
- Forming policy on the school’s curriculum,
- Setting standards for pupils’ behaviour and discipline,
- Making sure school buildings are welcoming and safe,
- Setting and monitoring the school’s aims and policies.
The core of governors is relatively small, each of whom has expertise in their own field. The Governing Body is able to co-opt Associate Members where needed, for specific tasks. A Governors’ Notice Board in school with up-to-date information will include a comments/questions envelope to enable the board to regularly and frequently answer any questions and queries.
